Wow, time flies.
We are married for half a year already.
I know, it isn’t a long time, but sometimes it feels like we are an old married couple already, haha. Ahw… Looking back at these pictures makes me feel so happy! I really wish I could wear that dress more often. Such a shame to leave it hanging in the closet!
I am really grateful for Femke who made these lovely pictures on my special day. She has such a good eye for capturing the real moment, which makes these pictures even more dear to me. You can follow her on Instagram and she has a website too! Make sure to take a look at her other work.
I thought it would be fun to take you through the day based on my wedding pictures. I hope you enjoy!
I did my own make up for my big day. I used the beauty glow palette from Charlotte Tilbury for the most of my look. Warm colours suit me best, so this was the perfect palette.
For my hair I went to Trust Hair, a hair dresser in The Hague which was close to my grandfather’s house. It is always a good idea to go for a try-out so you don’t have to stress about your hair on the big day. I actually had to have two try-outs, haha. The first time I went to the salon thinking I wanted an updo, but when I looked at the pictures later I realised that it did not suit me that well. So, I went back for a second try out and choose a half updo, which suits me way better.
Going back to my grandfather’s place I still wore my casual clothing which was quite funny cause I also wore a veil and had to hold it in my hand. You can imagine the stares I got, haha.
And then… the dress! I bought my dress in Zwolle, where I grew up. Hony Bruidsmode is a great wedding shop. The Diane Legrand 6219 dress got adjusted to all my wishes. The sleeves, neckline, body and bottom (because I’m so tall) got adjusted. Oh, how I love this dress! I wish I could wear it more often, haha. I painted ‘bride’ and the date of our wedding on the clothing hanger by the way.
When Kelvin rang the doorbell I still had to get into my dress! No stress…
I didn’t want to wear a lot of jewellrey because I wanted my dress and veil to stand out. I only wore my engagement ring and simple pearl earrings. The wedding shoes I wore came from Rainbow. They are called the Elsa Coloured Shoes Rainbow Club Dewi (what a mouth full). I also bought them at the same store as I bought my dress.
This is one of the pictures I am most grateful for. It reminds me of my grandma. She made the folding screen you can see on the right. She was such a creative person. This picture especially moves me because I can remember her reapplying her lipstick so vividly.
Of course I had to act a little bit crazy to shake off the nerves, haha.
But I think I wasn’t the only one who was nervous, haha. He is looking so handsome!
Stepping into our golden carriage wasn’t that easy, haha.
When we arrieved at our wedding loacation, the old city hall of The Hague, this picture was taken. It really gives me those vintage vibes, like it was taken a long time ago.
My lovely bridesmaids, they look so beautiful!
These pictures also mean a lot to me. I love my dad very much and I am so grateful that he could walk me to the altar.
All smiles and laughter, but also a lot of tears and kisses!
After making it official we made family pictures outside and then we head out to do an outdoor photoshoot. Whoohoo!
We went to our church to eat and party! Two of my favorite things, haha. Most of the decorations I made by hand, like the flower arrangements and the name cards were handwritten.
I got this card box idea from Pinterest, and I Love how it turned out. The idea to frame our address in a photo frame was an idea I got from my best friends wedding. Our friend’s could take a picture of it and immediately have our new address.
Kelvin and I love Thai food, so that is what we served at our wedding. Dairy free and delicious! I still get compliments about the food. So I guess it must have been really good. I didn’t eat much of it to be honest because I was still a bit tense.
As a surprise I asked Kelvins sisters to sing the cover of All my life from Kina Grannis. It was so beautiful!
A dairy free wedding cake is not easy to find. Luckily, I have an amazing mother in law who made this beautiful cake! It had a lemon and orange flavor and it was delicious! Too bad I only had three bites of it because we were so busy talking to people, haha.
Our ‘first dance’ was so much fun. The song You & I from John McLaughlin has really become ‘our’ song.
Before we stepped into our golden carriage I threw my bouquet. Taken together, it truly was a beautiful day. We had great weather, the people were amazing and everything went as planned. I am so grateful that I could enjoy this special day. A day to never forget.
But… There was a second day! Yes, a two day wedding!? Kelvin and I are members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, and so we had the privilege of getting married and sealed in the temple for time and all eternity before God. In some countries you only have to get married in the temple and it is legally binding, but in the Netherlands you have to get married before the law and in the temple.
It was a beautiful ceremony with a lot of tears of joy. I am so grateful we have a temple here in the Netherlands. The ‘The Hague’ temple might not be big, but it is very beautiful.
Was it my dream wedding? Absolutely. What would your dream wedding look like? And are you married? I am curious, haha. Let me know in the comments!
